Ernesto Labuntog
Inventor of rapid water purification system

The notion that we cannot produce local machinery and technology that can turn out the polluted water into potable ones is highly fallacious.

Engineer Ernesto Labuntog has invented a rapid water purification system designed to purify even the dirtiest water to become potable and safe for drinking.? What makes it more unique is the fact that it is iodized too, adding nutritive value necessary for the physical and mental growth of children and health maintenance of adults.

The water obtained from this filtration contains calcium and magnesium known to improve the mental development of the young. Micronutrients like iodine and flouride fortified into the water prevent goiter, tooth decay and osteoporosis.

Rapid filtration technique is a breakthrough in the purification of highly turbid and contaminated sources. This homegrown technology is a spin off from the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) funded seawater desalination project in 1999.

The rapid multi-media filtration employed by Labuntog is a kind of filtration that subject raw water to a relatively high pressure. A highly turbid and contaminated source is pre-treated to allow large particles of colloids to settle to the bottom. This is then made to pass through the filter media and come out clean.

The system uses ideal filter material like anthracite and activated carbon among others to filter water. These two materials which are abundant in the Philippines, are known to be very effective filter media.
